The Kinda Funny Xcast discussed the absence of Xbox at The Game Awards, with the hosts musing several different opinions on why the company pushed aside one of the biggest events in games. Some felt that Xbox was trying to avoid getting in the way of PlayStation’s big reveal of the PlayStation 5, while others argued that given the company’s lack of major releases in 2020 (outside of Gears of War 5 and Sea of Thieves) perhaps it wasn’t worth the effort to push for a bigger presence at the ceremony. All in all, the hosts came to the conclusion that the current technology and console market has created an environment of heated competition, which makes it increasingly difficult for companies to produce and market major titles in the same year. Whether Xbox’s decision to sit out of The Game Awards will prove to be the right call remains to be seen.
