The hiring of an offensive and defensive coordinator to replace departed coaches Dan Enos and Tosh Lupoi is a major move for Alabama head coach Nick Saban. With the changes, Alabama could become even more potent than it already is – and that has Dabo Swinney seeing things a certain way.
The Clemson head coach believes this hiring move is nothing more than a testament to the dominance of Alabama’s program over the years. As Swinney notes, Alabama has become the model for sustaining success in college football.
“Alabama’s still the measuring stick to me,” Swinney said. “It definitely speaks to their program and their success and what they’ve been able to do. It’s no different than when every year they have Coach [Nick] Saban coming back, they have great coordinators that can step in and make a place competitive and even better, really. It’s really been a remarkable testament to their program, the job that Nick Saban has done there, and consistent success. You have to tip your hat to them.”
It’s clear that Swinney respects the job that Saban has done in Tuscaloosa, and the hiring of the new coordinators is yet another reason why. As always, Alabama is setting the standard in the world of college football – and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
