Theodosia Burr Alston was the daughter of US Founding Father Aaron Burr and wife of South Carolina Governor Joseph Alston. In 1812, Theodosia was travelling off the North Carolina coast on her way to visit her father in New York City when her ship mysteriously disappeared.

For centuries, Theodosia’s fate has remained shrouded in mystery. Some believe she died when her ship foundered in a storm while others believe she was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery in the Caribbean.
