The stock market closed higher today after weeks of wild swings due to COVID-19 fears and uncertainty. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 582.05 points, or 2.4 percent, to 24,874.86. The S&P 500 gained 45.37 points, or 1.6 percent, to finish at 2,876.32, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 142.56 points, or 1.8 percent, to 8,115.67. The VIX volatility index, Wall Street’s “fear gauge,” fell to 37.45. After weeks of volatility, investors are cautiously optimistic about how the market will open tomorrow.
